Implant Retained Dentures
Dentures can restore your teeth if you have lost all of your teeth in your upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. Traditional dentures, on the other hand, are not without flaws. Because they rest on the gums, they may not be as secure as you would want, especially lower dentures, and you may be confined to eating more soft foods than you would like.
Implant retained dentures are used to support a detachable arch of replacement teeth, or dentures. They clip onto the implants for a more secure fit, as opposed to regular dentures that are kept on with suction or glue. Because ordinary lower dentures are less sturdy than top dentures, this extra security is especially appealing to persons replacing their bottom arch of teeth. This increased stability allows most patients to begin returning tougher and more difficult foods into their diet, which is beneficial for both qualities of life and nutrition.
Implants are placed within the jawbone, and the number of implants placed varies depending on the amount of bone you have and whether it is for the upper or lower arch. The purpose of this is to allow the denture the ability to clip on and off. The benefits of this are that there is no rocking shifting or rubbing that regular dentures can cause because your implants will keep the denture secure.
At least 3 months after implant placement surgery we will take measurements and begin the process of placing implant retained dentures. During this 3-month period wait for implant integration, you will have a temporary transitional denture. This is so you can have the benefit of chewing and smiling with a full set of teeth. This is until the implants have integrated and we can expose them and load them with teeth.
This treatment is a process with multiple appointments that the dentist will go over with you during the consultation stage.
